The weeks and months before Blizzard officially announces a new WOW extension, which will happen on April 19, 2022, this time, several leaks and fake leaks were filled around the setting of the other travel. Sometimes it turned to dragons, sometimes the light and the emptiness and sometimes the supposedly new class of the Tinker. In addition to the past World First Race and the current events of Patch 9.2 almost everything turned around the upcoming extension. Above all, however, the way Blizzard after the end of the Oberböseweight Zovaal, who had pulled the threads in the background for years.

In all the discussions around DragonFlight, Awakening or however the upcoming expansion is called, I became relatively clear in the course of time. Actually, I do not care how the setting of the story will be. The main thing, the developers connect the whole with cool features and avoid the mistakes they have committed at the beginning of Shadowlands and Battle for Azeroth.
The story is always the same
Let’s look at the past extensions, or even the entire story of WOW (buy now), then you can certainly say that the story is more or less constructed after the same pattern. We get it with a new threat to do, travel there (sometimes reversed) and quickly realize that we do not get along al1. The Tinker is highly traded as a new class in the next WOW extension. That, and I’m sure, will not change in the upcoming extension. For me personally, it does not matter if the threat is caused by a Titan, a dragon or the goblin by next door. As long as the story is well told well and prepares the frame for great fighting, I am satisfied with every setting.
The features must be right!
Whether the upcoming expansion is fun, or more likely to end in trial, depends on the features at the end of the day, which deal with her. So the story of Cataclysm or BFA in my eyes was not bad, the grugs or even completely missing features have made it for me but rather mow extensions. Things like the war fronts were beautifully thought, but could not ignite.
Extensions such as Legion or Warlords of Draenor, on the other hand, had stories that me less. The features, especially mythical-plus dungeons, world quests, artifact weapons or the garrison (yes, I really liked the garrison), but ensure that the extension remained in positive memory for me.

Of course, these include the raids and dungeons and their playful quality – for example, is the reason why I’m not so badly remembering Shadowlands.
Patch 9.2 gives me the direction for me
Whether and which features are really cool, is of course in the eye of the beholder. What happens to one, the other still has to promise. For Patch 9.2 forms the foundation for the upcoming extension. Despite the controversible story, the latest update made a lot done right. The features such as protoform synthesis, ciphering of the first or the creation catalyst were good and above all, most relevant content is not connected to an endless grind. At least that’s what the content you do not play due to the feature yourself, but because you get player Power for other content.

But other things, for example, the design of the animal set bonuses or legendary likes told me very well. Or the fact that many ways led to the desired result due to the new currency of the cosmic flux. Bot in patch 9.2 finally the playful freedom that Shadowlands missed at the beginning.
In the same notch, the departure from the “Meaningful Choices”, as Ion Hazzikostas expressed the forced to join one of the pacts. Meanwhile, we can change between the pacts, which brings significantly more variety – even if he could change a little more comfortable.
More work on the features
So that the features really rock in the upcoming extension, the developers do not only need to put in a lot of work, but also listen to the feedback of the players. Of course, here again, the tastes of the players are different and you can never make it right. The topic TimeGating is a preliminary example – many abhor it, others are again happy that the stories can be better told.

The permanent react and adapt due to the feedback, which not only came from the advice of the players did the rest. Sure, balancing remained a bit on the track in the past patch, but thanks to the 4th season, the developers hopefully have time, both alike.
And if the features rock, then I do not care if we fight against cosmic powers, small gnome or beer drinking monkeys at the end of the day. For for me, the quality of the features decides on success or failure of the upcoming WOW extension.
